My grandpa (God rest his soul) asked me, when i was about 5. If I knew how to swim. The conversation went something like this;
While standing in the shallow end of the pool in the backyard of his Northridge, Ca home.
Grandpa: Les’can you swim sweetie
Me: Of course, Grandpa
Grandpa: Are you sure
Me: Yes, Grandpa
then suddenly, I went flying into the other side of the pool. I just knew I as going to drown,a s my family was laughing hysterically. I was splashing and swallowing water and yelling as best I could, Then I heard from the sidelines, “Stand Up! Stand Up!”
Obviously, i was busy trying to breather and swim. Then my mother came to the side of the pool where i was drowning and politely told me as arrogantly as possible without laughing, for me to stand up. Actually, her words were; “Stand up fool.”
This is when I learned it was a play pool (3 ft all around).
Welcome to my world. I can swim now though. Thanks Grandpa for the lessons. 😉
